Walking
the Walk
Sustainable Business Consulting has established very progressive policies that enable
our employees, contractors,
and even interns to live and
work in a more sustainable fashion. From generous vacation packages
and free bus passes, to paid incentives for biking to work, we
believe in walking the walk in every aspect
of our organization.
Specific Measures:
- Use of 100% recycled paper products(paper, envelopes, note
pads)
- Duplex printing and copying is mandatory
- Use of only biodegradable and non-toxic cleaners
- Purchase organic fruits and vegetables, as well as Fair Trade
coffees and teas for the office and business meetings
- Reduce waste by giving employees a
reusable mug on their first day of work
- Biodegradable garbage bags
- Offset 100% of company carbon emissions
each year starting in 2006
- Free flu shots for every employee
- Office located in a mixed use (commercial/residential/retail)
building and located near major transportation hubs.
- All desks
FSC certified or purchased pre-owned.
- For employee health
reasons walls were painted with non-VOC paint and non-toxic
interface carpet was installed in place
of existing carpet.
- Employees given half day Fridays
during the summer.
- Employees are given one ski day per calendar
year. (However, snowboarders will be docked vacation)
- Working
Assets used as long distance telephone and credit card provider
because of its policy of donating
a portion
of profits to non-profit organizations.
- Use of compact
fluorescent lighting only.
- Sustainable Business Consulting will match
Seattle City Light, SPU, PSE incentives for employees up
to $250
- Employees and contractors are encouraged to complete a personal
carbon footprint and are paid to offset their personal emissions
- The office maintains Forest Service, National Parks,
and Sno-Park passes for employees and contractors to use on
weekends to
get outdoors
Commuting Specifics:
- Employees that bike to work at least 2x/week
receive a cash bonus of up to $50/month
- All employees, contractors, and interns receive a bus pass
- Employees that work 25+ hours/week receive $30 towards a
gym membership and are encouraged to work out during business
hours
- Employees that work more than 25+ hours/week
can telecommute at least one day/week
- Flex-time is offered to employees,
so that they can work five (8) hour days, four (10) hour
days, or five (9) hour days and get every other Friday off
- Guaranteed “Get Home” policy
if an employee is stuck at work without a car, the
company will pay
for public
transportation or a taxi if necessary
